Ben Stiller finds himself in over his head as he ventures into a quaint rural town to take charge of his recently orphaned nephews in the captivating trailer for "Nutcrackers," the festive film destined for Hulu. Helmed by director David Gordon Green, this heartwarming tale is poised to make its streaming debut on November 29th, following its exclusive premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The ensemble cast is rounded out by Linda Cardellini, Edi Patterson, Tim Heidecker, and Toby Huss, joined by the young and vibrant real-life siblings Homer, Ulysses, Atlas, and Arlo Janson.
"Nutcrackers" revolves around the career-driven Mike (Stiller), who arrives just three weeks before Christmas to temporarily care for his four mischievous nephews until they can be placed in a foster home. "I'm here now to look after you, to find a family for you guys," Stiller warmly assures the boys in the footage. Later, a frustrated Stiller pleads with the lively lads, "Act like normal children, alright? I'm trying my best to find you a wonderful home."
Green directs the film from a script penned by Leland Douglas, with Nate Meyer, Rob Paris, and Mike Witherill serving as producers. Stiller, himself a director and executive producer of the acclaimed Apple TV+ series "Severance," which returns for its second season on January 17, 2025, brings his unique charm to this heartfelt comedy.
Green's illustrious filmography includes "The Exorcist: Believer," the recent "Halloween" reboot trilogy, and the hit "Pineapple Express." In his review for The Hollywood Reporter, chief film critic David Rooney remarked, "While 'Nutcrackers' may not quite match the robustness of other uplifting family comedies, for those audience members who sync with Green's free-flowing rhythm, the emotional reward will undoubtedly be profound."
