The spooky season has slipped away, making way for the joyous celebrations of the year's end… yet, that doesn't imply a cessation of horror movies gracing the silver screen this month. A thrilling werewolf flick aptly named "Werewolves" is poised to hit theaters this weekend. Soon after, on the 25th, Robert Eggers' remake of "Nosferatu," which promises to be an enduring classic, will make its debut. And just two days hence, on December 27th, the horror-comedy slasher "Bloody Axe Wound" will embark on a limited theatrical run.

Penned and helmed by Matthew John Lawrence, whose moniker reassures us he's not the child actor from "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Boy Meets World" (albeit, he did pen and direct "Uncle Peckerhead"), "Bloody Axe Wound" unfolds like this: Abbie Bladecut, a teenager, grapples with the macabre rituals of her family's sanguinary trade and the tender beginnings of her first love. In the quaint town of Clover Falls, Abbie's father, Roger Bladecut, has carved an infamous niche by capturing real-life murders on tape and peddling them to avid consumers. As Abbie delves deeper into this gruesome familial endeavor, she finds herself questioning whether it's time to steer the family tradition onto a new path.

The film boasts a stellar cast including Sari Arambulo, Molly Brown, Eddie Leavy, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Billy Burke, with a runtime of 83 minutes—a duration that strikes the perfect chord for me. Produced by Hilarie Burton Morgan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan under Mischief Farm, and Cassandra Del Viscio and Mary Stuart Masterson for Off Label HV, "Bloody Axe Wound" also counts Liz DeCesare, Jordan Manekin, Eric Knapp, Mackenzie Luzzi, and Sarah Fairchild as its producers, while Meg Mortimer served in an executive producer role.

Following its cinematic release, "Bloody Axe Wound" will also find its way onto the Shudder streaming service, albeit a precise premiere date on Shudder has yet to be unveiled.
