Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry are poised to illuminate Los Angeles with a fresh perspective in the gripping thriller, "Crime 101." Director Bart Layton graced the stage alongside his stellar cast at CinemaCon, offering an exclusive sneak peek of the film destined to captivate audiences later this year. The ensemble is rounded out by a formidable line-up including Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, Tate Donovan, Devon Bostick, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Nick Nolte.
"At the helm of this exhilarating journey stands our fearless director, Bart Layton," Berry captivated the audience, describing a tale where Ruffalo stars as a tenacious detective hot on the trail of jewelry heist masterminds. Layton highlighted the pivotal role of the iconic L.A.-based 101 Freeway in the narrative, expressing his aspiration to "immortalize L.A. in a manner unseen before on the silver screen."
Hemsworth extolled the virtues of "this uniquely enchanting film, one that ensnares you in its universe and keeps you on the edge of your seat till the very last heartbeat."
The trailer commences with Hemsworth's character being quizzed about his motivations. "What drives me? Well, money, I suppose," he responds bluntly. A taut automotive scene unfolds, with Nolte sternly informing Keoghan, "You're not your father. You may lack his fortitude." Keoghan retorts with defiance, "I possess the stomach for numerous endeavors."
Later in the preview, Berry delineates her role, stating, "I craft insurance policies for individuals possessed of wealth beyond their comprehension."
Layton, who penned the screenplay with contributions from Peter Straughan, directed the film based on author Don Winslow's novella of the same name. The novella, published in 2021, revolves around detective Lou Lubesnick's relentless pursuit to unravel a series of jewelry heists by tracing a perpetrator adhering to a rigid code known as "Crime 101."
Producing the film are Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan for Working Title, alongside Layton and Dimitri Doganis for RAW, with additional production credits going to Derrin Schlesinger and Shane Salerno. Joely Fether executive produces for RAW.
CinemaCon, the annual conference for exhibitors and Hollywood studios, is underway from March 31 to April 3, presented by Cinema United (formerly known as the National Association of Theatre Owners).
