Ryan Hurst, a seasoned actor renowned for his pivotal roles in FX's gritty drama "Sons of Anarchy" and AMC's horror-thriller "The Walking Dead," has gracefully stepped into the prestigious ranks of Hollywood elite for Christopher Nolan's latest cinematic endeavor, an adaptation of Homer's timeless epic poem, "The Odyssey." The Universal Pictures feature, currently underway, boasts an all-star ensemble that reads like a who's who of the industry, featuring names like Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, and Jon Bernthal, among others.
The roll call of talents extends further to include Mia Goth, Elliot Page, Samantha Morton, once again Benny Safdie, and Cosmo Jarvis, among a stellar cast. Described by Universal as a "mythic action epic filmed across the globe using groundbreaking Imax film technology," this motion picture marks the first time Homer's seminal saga will be brought to life on Imax screens, with a grand theatrical release slated for July 17, 2026.
Homer's poem chronicles the odyssey of the Greek hero, King Odysseus, portrayed by Damon in Nolan's interpretation, and his arduous, decade-long voyage back to Ithaca following the Trojan War. This treacherous journey is fraught with divine interventions and encounters with mythical beings, such as the formidable Cyclopes. Additionally, the narrative weaves in the tales of Odysseus' devoted wife and grown son, who must bravely fend off aggressive suitors vying for the throne.
With a decade-long acting career spanning back to the 1990s, Hurst has left an indelible mark in films such as "Remember the Titans" and "We Were Soldiers," as well as numerous television shows, notably his acclaimed portrayal of the burly and loyal Opie Winston in "Sons of Anarchy." More recently, Hurst shone in the Disney+ series "Mysterious Benedict Society," based on Trenton Lee Stewart's beloved books, and will soon be seen in the upcoming Netflix series "The Abandons," alongside Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson.
Hurst is represented by UTA and Piper Kaniecki Marks, continuing his ascent in the realm of Hollywood's most esteemed actors.
