Lily James and Pierce Brosnan gear up to thrill audiences with their revamped version of "Cliffhanger," a cinematic adventure that has commenced principal photography in the breathtaking landscapes of Austria. This modern reinterpretation of the 1993 Sylvester Stallone-starrer aims to captivate moviegoers once again, helmed by director Jaume Collet-Serra. The film, a collaborative venture between Rocket Science, Thank You Pictures, and Supernix, is set for a grand theatrical release.

The reboot of "Cliffhanger" revolves around mountaineer Ray Cooper (played by Brosnan), who operates a cozy chalet with his daughter amidst the breathtaking Dolomites of Italy. When the duo is unexpectedly abducted, Naomi (portrayed by James), Ray's elder daughter still grappling with the shadows of a past climbing disaster, must confront her fears and conquer her demons to rescue her family.

Last year, Stallone was announced as the star of this reimagined thriller, but he has since departed from the project, along with previously announced director Ric Roman Waugh. The talented ensemble cast also includes Nell Tiger Free, Franz Rogowski, Shubham Saraf, Assaad Bouab, Suzy Bemba, and Bruno Gouery. The project is grounded in a compelling narrative conceived by Ana Lily Amirpour.

"Shooting our film amidst the majestic Dolomites, utilizing large format cameras, was essential to evoke the grandeur and intensity of our narrative," Collet-Serra expressed in a statement. "We are poised to deliver an exhilarating and immersive cinematic experience that will resonate deeply with audiences. Lily, in particular, has demonstrated remarkable dedication, undergoing extensive training to master climbing techniques. Her unwavering commitment has facilitated breathtaking shots that would have been unachievable otherwise, leaving the entire crew in awe."

The production is backed by a formidable team of producers, including Lars Sylvest from Thank You Pictures, Joe Neurauter from Supernix, Thorsten Schumacher from Rocket Science, alongside Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe.

The original "Cliffhanger," released in May 1993 by TriStar Pictures, grossed an impressive $255 million worldwide. Stallone starred under the direction of Renny Harlin as a seasoned mountain climber tasked with tracking down suitcases filled with stolen money in the treacherous terrains of the Rocky Mountains.

James is represented by UTA and Tavistock Wood, while Brosnan is managed by CAA, Viewpoint, and Hansen Jacobson. Collet-Serra is represented by LBI Entertainment and Yorn Levine.
