Dakota Johnson blames 'uncreative' decision-makers for 'Madame Web's' failure

Dakota Johnson, the leading lady of the recent superhero flick "Madame Web," has opened up about the film's disappointing box office performance, blaming it on "those devoid of a creative spark within them." In an exclusive interview with The Los Angeles Times, Johnson exclaimed, "I bear no responsibility for its failure. These days, creative decisions are all too often conjured up by committees or individuals who possess not an ounce of creativity. Crafting art, or even creating something entertaining in such an environment, is an uphill battle."

The actress, renowned for her role in "Fifty Shades of Grey," elaborated that the film's vision morphed throughout production, leaving her merely as a passenger on this uncharted journey. She mused, "Such things do happen. High-budget movies flounder all the time." Johnson seemed to have accepted the film's fate with equanimity, stating, "I'm not wearing a Band-Aid over it... I haven't harbored thoughts like, 'Never again will I venture into this territory.'"

Earlier, in a chat with Bustle, Johnson hinted at her disillusionment with superhero movies, confessing, "This was uncharted territory for me. I doubt I'll ever tread such waters again, for I don't fit seamlessly into that universe. I've come to terms with that now." She further revealed that the film's evolution during production was a "sobering lesson learned," albeit a bitter pill to swallow being part of something that was "torn to pieces."

Sony Pictures' CEO, Tony Vinciquerra, recently acknowledged the film's underwhelming box office run, attributing it to scathing media coverage. Vinciquerra lamented, "'Madame Web' stumbled at the box office because the press savaged it. It wasn't a terrible film; in fact, it performed exceptionally well on Netflix." He added that critics had "demolished" the film, hinting at a media bias against the movie.
