"You cherubic children... ripe and alluring, almost edible." Wow! Universal Pictures has unveiled a second, even more chilling trailer for the eerie horror flick, "The Woman in the Yard," set to haunt theaters at the tail end of March, mere weeks away. This preview promises a thrilling ride! An enigmatic, ethereal woman clad entirely in darkness materializes unbidden on a family's front lawn, her voice a foreboding whisper as she intones, "Today's the day." Her origin a mystery, her desires unknown, her departure uncertain – only "The Woman in the Yard" holds the answers.
Hailing from Blumhouse, now celebrated as "the most successful global brand in horror," this original chiller stars BAFTA and SAG nominee Danielle Deadwyler as Ramona, a woman whose soul is shattered by grief following a car accident that claimed her husband's life. The spectral figure's ominous shadow serves as a cunning device, seamlessly woven into this hair-raising narrative.
Deadwyler is joined by Okwui Okpokwasili, Russell Hornsby, Peyton Jackson, and Estella Kahiha, under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra (also responsible for last year's "Carry On"). Brace yourselves – it seems we're on the cusp of witnessing the year's first standout horror film, one that's about to encroach upon our very doorsteps.
On a secluded farmhouse, Ramona, gravely injured, struggles to care for her 14-year-old son (Peyton Jackson) and 6-year-old daughter (Estella Kahiha). Then, one fateful day, the woman in black manifests in their yard. Initially, Ramona assumes she is lost or deranged. But as she inches closer to the house, it becomes achingly clear that she is far from ordinary, her intentions far from benign. Now, Ramona must muster every ounce of strength to shield herself and her children from the clutches of this relentless woman who refuses to leave them in peace.
"The Woman in the Yard" is helmed by Catalan action maestro Jaume Collet-Serra, whose credits include "House of Wax," "Goal II: Living the Dream," "Orphan," "Unknown," "Non-Stop," "Run All Night," "The Shallows," "The Commuter," Disney's "Jungle Cruise," DC's "Black Adam," and most recently, "Carry On." The screenplay is penned by Sam Stefanak, with Jason Blum and Stephanie Allain producing. Universal Pictures, in collaboration with Blumhouse, will unleash "The Woman in the Yard" onto theater screens starting March 28th, 2025.
Frightening? Absolutely.
