Embark on your next journey to Downton Abbey... but brace yourself, it's a while away. Focus Features has unveiled the news that Downton Abbey 3, currently filming in the picturesque UK, will grace our screens on September 12, 2025. This third installment of the beloved franchise is penned by the mastermind behind Downton, Julian Fellowes, and directed by Simon Curtis, who helmed the captivating Downton Abbey: A New Era in 2022.
The sequel, A New Era, took us on a journey with the Crawley family and their devoted staff as they hosted a movie crew for the filming of a silent film within the Abbey's walls, while other family members embarked on an exciting mystery-solving adventure in a French villa.
Although the precise plot of Downton Abbey 3 remains shrouded in mystery, the stellar cast is sure to delight. Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, and a galaxy of other familiar faces will reprise their roles. Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, Lesley Nicol, Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera, and Douglas Reith will all return to grace our screens once again.
And in a delightful twist, Dominic West (from The Affair) will reprise his role as Guy Dexter, a character who made his debut in Downton Abbey: A New Era. Paul Giamatti (of Billions) will also return to play Harold Levinson, Cora Grantham's brother. Adding to the star-studded cast are newcomers Joely Richardson (from Nip/Tuck), Alessandro Nivola (Doll & Em, The Many Saints of Newark), Simon Russell Beale (Penny Dreadful), and Arty Froushan (Carnival Row), all set to bring their unique charm to this cinematic delight.
