Universal has unveiled the breathtaking first official trailer for Christopher Nolan's upcoming masterpiece, The Odyssey, set to arrive in theaters on July 2026 next summer. This epic adaptation of the iconic ancient Greek poem by Homer brings to life Odysseus's perilous journey home after the Trojan War, shot across the globe using the latest IMAX film technology. The entire film is shot with IMAX film cameras – a first-of-its-kind feat – bringing Homer's foundational saga to IMAX screens for the first time.
The story follows Odysseus (played by Matt Damon), the legendary Greek king of Ithaca, as he encounters mythical beings such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe (played by Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron), culminating in his long-awaited reunion with his wife Penelope (played by a star-studded ensemble cast including Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, and more).
The 6-minute prologue, featuring the iconic Trojan Horse, is currently playing in IMAX before Avatar: Fire and Ash. This looks like an astonishing voyage that will transport audiences to a world of myth and adventure.

Produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan through their own company Syncopy, Universal Pictures will release Nolan's The Odyssey in theaters starting July 17th, 2026 next summer.
