Fleetwood Mac's storied journey is set to unfold in an imminent documentary, as revealed by Apple TV+ in a groundbreaking collaboration. Teaming up with The Kennedy/Marshall Company, White Horse Pictures, and director Frank Marshall, the streamer announced on November 19th, Tuesday, that it will produce a "fully authorized" documentary on the iconic British-American rock band.
"I am utterly captivated by the narrative of immense musical triumph that emerged," Marshall expressed in a press release. "Fleetwood Mac uniquely blended their tumultuous and nearly melodramatic personal lives into their own real-time saga, which has transcended into legend. This film will be a celebration of the music and the creative souls behind it."
Marshall, alongside his wife Kathleen Kennedy, was honored with the Irving G. Thalberg Award prior to the 2019 Oscars. In recent times, he has pivoted towards directing acclaimed music documentaries, including the Grammy-winning 'Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story' and the Emmy-nominated 'The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.' His latest venture is Disney+'s 'The Beach Boys.'
"We are elated to extend our creative venture with Frank and the stellar team at Kennedy/Marshall," producer Nicholas Ferrall enthused on Tuesday.
This will mark the maiden occasion where the Grammy Award-winning, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees narrate their career in their own voice. The band's most renowned lineup comprised Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie (who passed away in November 2022), Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks. Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, Jeremy Spencer, and Bob Welch were also integral members at various stages of the band's rich history.
"Fleetwood Mac represents a musical phenomenon, their synergy almost unfathomable. White Horse is deeply honored and humbled to have the remarkable chance to craft a documentary that delves into the individual talents of each band member and the enchantment that makes Fleetwood Mac a collective masterpiece. And to embark on this endeavor with the support and reach of Apple is truly exhilarating," Ferrall further stated.
The documentary promises an intimate glimpse into the band's "unyielding, over-half-a-century history, from their record-shattering recordings and tours—featuring never-seen-before footage, exclusive fresh interviews, and archival interviews of the late Christine McVie—to the present day," the release adds.
Fans are poised for an emotional odyssey as they uncover fresh insights about the group that has "sold over 220 million records worldwide."
"It's not a Rumour," began the caption on their Instagram announcement, referencing the band's seminal 1977 studio album, 'Rumours.' "From director Frank Marshall, this Apple Original Films documentary will embark you on the monumental voyage of the generation-defining Fleetwood Mac," concluded the post, accompanied by three enchanting photos of the band.
A title and release date for the documentary have yet to be unveiled.
