HBO has expanded its ensemble for the highly anticipated "Harry Potter" TV series by casting several pivotal roles, notably the Malfoy family and the Dursleys. The television adaptation of J.K. Rowling's enchanting fantasy saga has unveiled nine actors who will breathe life into key characters for its inaugural season, which delves into the tale of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

The stellar cast comprises (arranged left to right in the accompanying photograph) Katherine Parkinson as the warm-hearted Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt embodying the haughty Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn portraying the sinister Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as the cheerful Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as the graceful Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as the dreamy Lavender Brown, Bel Powley as the cold Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as the brute Vernon Dursley, and Bertie Carvel as the bumbling Cornelius Fudge.

Adhering to the show's mission to align the characters' ages more closely with those in the books, the actors portraying Harry's muggle relatives exhibit a youthful vibe – at least, when out of character – in contrast to the older Richard Griffiths and Fiona Shaw who essayed these roles in the Warner Bros. films. In Rowling's narratives, Petunia and Vernon are in their mid-thirties when the magical journey commences with "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

These nine actors join an already impressive lineup that includes Emmy winner John Lithgow (Conclave) as the wise and benevolent Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Oscar nominee Janet McTeer (Ozark) as the stern Transfiguration Professor Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu (Black Mirror) donning the role of the sneering Potions Professor Severus Snape, Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) as the burly Hogwarts gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid. Additionally, stage veteran Luke Thallon will play Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor Quirinus Quirrell, while Paul Whitehouse (Harry & Paul) has been tapped to portray the grumpy caretaker Argus Filch.

They are joined by the announced young cast: Dominic McLaughlin as the勇敢无畏的 Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as the brainy Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as the new Ron Weasley.

HBO intends to adapt each of Rowling's seven novels into a season-long television journey. The network has reiterated its commitment to the adaptation and its place within the Harry Potter universe: "The series promises to be a faithful rendering of the beloved 'Harry Potter' book series by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling, featuring a dynamic and talented ensemble that will captivate a new generation of fans. Imbued with the fantastic details and beloved characters that Harry Potter aficionados have cherished for over 25 years, each season will delve into every nook and cranny of the wizarding world, bringing Harry Potter's incredible adventures to both new and loyal audiences exclusively on Max, accessible globally, including upcoming markets like Turkey, the U.K., Germany, and Italy, among others. The timeless, classic, and beloved films will continue to serve as the franchise's cornerstone and remain available worldwide."

Francesca Gardiner serves as showrunner and executive producer, while Mark Mylod directs multiple episodes and also executive produces. The series is executive produced by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, alongside David Heyman of Heyday Films.
