Josh Heald, who co-created "Cobra Kai" alongside Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that they had approached Swank with the prospect of her returning as Julie Pierce in the sixth and final season. "In the nascent stages of pre-production, we reached out to explore the possibility of her involvement," shared Josh. He further elaborated, "We had a faint sketch of how she could seamlessly weave back into the narrative without the commitment of a full-fledged 10-episode arc."

However, Josh recounted that their aspirations were thwarted even before they could sit down with the actress. "She gracefully declined, preferring not to inconvenience us with the travel and emotional investment, as it wasn't something she was prepared to undertake at that juncture," explained the co-creator. He added, "On her part, it was handled with utmost respect, but we missed out on the heartfelt discussions we usually have when welcoming back characters from the franchise's storied past."

Nonetheless, Josh confessed, "For us, it was tinged with disappointment, as we strive for a complete reunion, but we didn't compromise any pivotal storylines that we had meticulously crafted." "It leaves the door ajar for potential future explorations within this universe," noted Josh optimistically.
