James Gunn has recently lifted the lid on persistent rumors surrounding the casting of Wonder Woman. In an exclusive interview with Extra, the seasoned filmmaker addressed the fervent speculation among fans about Adria Arjona, star of Hit Man, potentially donning the iconic mantle in the DC Universe. The gossip mill went into overdrive when James, who concurrently holds the position of co-head at DC Studios, hit the 'follow' button on Adria's Instagram page.
"I follow Adria on Instagram," revealed the Suicide Squad helmer, "but everyone jumped to conclusions, thinking, 'He just followed her; she must be Wonder Woman!'" James quipped, adding, "She'd actually make a fantastic Wonder Woman, by the way."
However, the filmmaker then pulled back the curtain on their connection, revealing that Adria had starred in a film he directed seven years ago titled The Belko Experiment, way back in 2016. "We've been friends and known each other since then," elaborated the 58-year-old director. "I followed her back then; it wasn't a recent development. People just have a knack for noticing these things all the time."
Earlier, in a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, James had also opened up about the ongoing development of the next Wonder Woman film at DC Studios. "Wonder Woman is a project unto itself," James clarified at the time. He went on to mention, "We're actively working on Wonder Woman, and the script is currently being penned."
Moreover, James confirmed that the role of Wonder Woman had not yet been cast.
