Jim Carrey might just be gearing up to swipe Christmas right out of our hands once again. The beloved actor, who brought the mischievous Grinch to life in the 2000 holiday blockbuster "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," recently opened up to Comicbook.com about potentially returning for a sequel, albeit with a caveat. Upon being quizzed about reprising one of his most iconic roles, Carrey chuckled, "Oh, gosh, if we could only crack the Grinch code once more. You see, portraying him involved layers of makeup that made breathing a herculean task. It was truly a grueling endeavor."
He elaborated, "The thought of the children was my constant companion. 'It's for the kids. It's all for the kids.' But nowadays, with motion capture technology and such wonders, I'm liberated to explore other avenues. Anything seems feasible in this vast world of ours."
Carrey, who also shone in the Ron Howard-helmed film "Bruce Almighty," underwent a rigorous transformation for his role as the Grinch, donning a cumbersome green full-body prosthetic suit and enduring hours of makeup each day. If the opportunity arises to play the Grinch through motion capture, the actor is more than eager to leap back into the green skin.
This festive tale, rooted in the whimsical character crafted by the late, great children's author and cartoonist Dr. Seuss, chronicles the tale of a revenge-bent Grinch residing on the fringes of Whoville, plotting to dash the Christmas spirits of the entire town.
In recent years, Carrey has taken a more measured approach to acting, choosing his projects with utmost discernment. Yet, fans will soon witness him return as Dr. Robotnik in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3," racing into theaters on December 20.
As for his motivation behind revisiting the sequel, the "Dumb and Dumber" star candidly admitted to the Associated Press, "I ventured back into this universe because, firstly, I get to embody a genius—a bit of a stretch for me, admittedly. And let's be honest, I've made quite a few purchases, and, quite frankly, I need the funds."
