J.K. Simmons, the Oscar-honored actor celebrated for his commanding performances in blockbusters such as "Whiplash" and the "Spider-Man" saga, has secured a pivotal role in an forthcoming crime series from MGM+.

The seasoned 70-year-old thespian takes center stage in a fresh crime drama, set against the backdrop of the early 1980s. The narrative revolves around the Irish-American Westies gang of Hell’s Kitchen, who found their fortune when the Jacob Javits Convention Center sprouted amidst their territory.

While the Italian Mafia's Five Families boasted far greater numbers, the Westies' fearsome reputation and cunning strategies garnered them the respect necessary to broker a precarious yet enduring alliance, sharing the spoils.

However, a rift is brewing between the bold, upstart members and the traditionalist bosses, threatening to unravel everything and propel the Westies into the FBI's intensifying clampdown on the Italian Mafia.
