The highly anticipated sequel to Kevin Costner's magnum opus, "Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter Two," has secured its global debut at the prestigious Venice Film Festival in September, following a surprising reversal in its U.S. release plans. Earlier this month, the Western epic's second installment, which was poised for an August 16 theatrical launch in America, was abruptly shelved after the first chapter, boasting a $100 million budget, garnered a modest $11 million on its opening weekend.

Now, on September 7, the Lido will witness the out-of-competition world premiere of "Chapter Two," where Costner reprises his dual roles as director and lead actor, accompanied by an ensemble cast featuring Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, and Danny Huston. This grand unveiling will be preceded by a special screening of "Horizon's" first chapter earlier in the day, echoing the film's triumphant Cannes debut in May, which garnered a resounding seven-minute standing ovation.

New Line Cinema's "Horizon: An American Saga" is a sweeping narrative that delves into the intricate tapestry of the Civil War's aftermath and the settlement of the American West. Costner, who not only directed and starred but also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Jon Baird ("The Explorers Guild"), produced the film through his Territory Pictures.

In a heartfelt statement, Costner expressed his profound gratitude, saying, "My dream has always been to showcase 'Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter Two' at the Venice Film Festival. The decision to premiere 'Chapter One' earlier in the day, followed by the world debut of 'Chapter Two' in the evening, underscores not only their faith in how these two films intertwine but also their unwavering support for a director's artistic vision. I am deeply indebted to Alberto Barbera for his unwavering courage and leadership in embarking on this cinematic odyssey with me."

Alberto Barbera, in turn, echoed his excitement, stating, "It is an immense pleasure and honor to host the world premiere of the second chapter of 'Horizon: An American Saga,' alongside its groundbreaking first part. This belated addition to the Venice Film Festival's lineup is a heartfelt tribute to the visionary project of a remarkable actor and director who has devoted himself to the epic recreation of a pivotal era in our nation's history. By delving beneath myths to uncover authenticity, Costner has restored a piece of history in all its complexities and contradictions."

In Variety's review of the first film, Chief Film Critic Owen Gleiberman noted, "Contrary to unfolding a cohesive Western narrative with a powerful narrative thrust, Costner presents a three-hour tapestry of anecdotes, interweaving various character groups and fleeting situations, offering a fleeting glimpse into life on the frontier. At times, it challenges audiences to piece together the unseen backstories lurking beneath the surface."
