The directors of "Lilo & Stitch" are providing an intriguing sneak peek into the sequel, barely a heartbeat after the resounding success of its inaugural chapter. In an exclusive May 20 interview with The Wall Street Journal, Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, tantalized fans with hints about the anticipated continuation. He revealed to the publication, "It seems poised for great success, embodying the essence of a franchise ripe for further exploration."
This announcement closely follows the live-action film's triumphant box office debut on May 25, 2025. Not only did it rake in an impressive $126 million over the Memorial Day weekend, but it also soared past the $183 million mark domestically.
In a statement to Disney, director Dean Fleischer Camp elaborated on the importance of honoring the 2002 film. He emphasized, "Our goal was to adapt it in a manner that respectfully paid homage to the original, while avoiding a literal, scene-for-scene remake. We were acutely aware that animation and live-action are distinct mediums, each with its unique strengths and limitations. In live-action, there are nuances and possibilities that animation cannot capture, and vice versa."
Meanwhile, Disney is actively preparing for other live-action adaptations, notably "Moana" and "The Aristocats," promising an exciting array of cinematic experiences on the horizon.
