The Wizards of the Coast, the company behind the revolution, launched Magic: The Gathering in 1993, heralding it as the world's premier trading card game. Swiftly, it captivated hearts worldwide, becoming a staple of schoolyards in the '90s and sparking conventions that celebrated its magic. Hasbro acquired Wizards of the Coast in 1999, and attributes the game's astronomical success—boasting 50 million players—to its enchanting characters, fantastical realms, and the profound strategic depth that defines gameplay.

"We cherish our role as diligent custodians of beloved, unique intellectual properties, and few fit this description more aptly than Magic: The Gathering," declared Mary Parent, Legendary's chairman of worldwide production. "Partnering with Hasbro's extraordinary team, we eagerly anticipate the creation of a multimedia universe that will exhilarate loyal fans and spark a wave of new adherents."

Legendary has transformed numerous renowned brands into sprawling franchises, such as Godzilla vs Kong and Dune, both spanning the realms of film and television. It has also orchestrated Netflix's Enola Holmes movies and is poised to unveil the Minecraft film, starring Jason Momoa, produced by Warner Bros.

Hasbro has already embarked on a Magic: The Gathering television journey with Netflix, helmed by Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas. A decade prior, 20th Century Fox attempted to develop a film universe under producer Simon Kinberg, but it never materialized.

"This alliance is thrilling and complementary, uniting one of the world's most legendary brands with a formidable and proven guardian," exclaimed Zev Foreman, Hasbro Entertainment's head of film. "Magic: The Gathering has sparked decades of epic world-crafting and narrative ingenuity. It is a seamless fit for Legendary's diversified approach to marquee intellectual properties, and we are overjoyed to collaborate in constructing an entirely new Magic: The Gathering universe."
