Maika Monroe, whose mainstream success skyrocketed with last year's horror sensation "Longlegs," has inked a deal to take the lead role in "Reminders of Him," Universal Pictures' adaptation of Colleen Hoover's best-selling novel. Vanessa Caswill, the visionary behind the Netflix romantic drama "Love at First Sight," featuring Haley Lu Richardson, will direct Universal's upcoming romantic drama.

Universal heralds this adaptation as a "transformative cinematic journey exploring the depths of motherhood, the path to forgiveness, and the unparalleled power of love to mend even the most broken hearts." Hoover, whose novel "It Ends With Us," which weaves the poignant tale of Keena Rowan, a troubled young mother yearning for redemption after a tragic misstep, has garnered widespread acclaim. This heart-wrenching narrative has sold an impressive six million copies in the United States alone.

Hoover collaborated with Lauren Levine on the screenplay, and the duo is producing through their production company, Heartbones Entertainment. Gina Matthews joins them as a producer via Little Engine Productions. Robin Fisichella serves as the executive producer, while Christine Sun, Director of Production Development, will oversee the project for the studio.

Though Monroe has carved a thriving niche in the thriller and horror genres, it was "Longlegs" that truly propelled her to fame, becoming the highest-grossing indie film of the year and cementing her status as one of Hollywood's most sought-after actresses. She has recently completed production on "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" for 20th Century Studios.

Monroe is represented by WME, Entertainment 360, and Felker Toczek.
