Mark Duplass, Avan Jogia and More Join Horror Film ‘The Backrooms’ From A24, Chernin Entertainment

A24's eagerly anticipated horror feature, "The Backrooms," is expanding its ensemble cast with a series of intriguing additions. Mark Duplass, renowned for his role in "The Morning Show," Finn Bennett, who captivated audiences in "True Detective," Lukita Maxwell, fresh from her stint in "Shrinking," and Avan Jogia, memorable from "56 Days," are all boarding the chilling project, which kicks off production this week in the scenic landscapes of Canada.

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve were previously heralded as the stars of this venture helmed by the prodigious 20-year-old director, Kane Parsons. With this gig, Parsons is poised to make history as the youngest filmmaker to work under A24's banner.

Collaboratively financing and co-studioing the film are A24 and Chernin Entertainment, a division of The North Road Company, alongside producers 21 Laps Entertainment and Atomic Monster. Parsons is embarking on his feature directorial debut with a screenplay penned by Will Soodik. While plot details remain shrouded in mystery, "The Backrooms" is inspired by Parsons' viral YouTube horror series that has garnered an astonishing 190 million views. A release date for the film has yet to be unveiled.

The producing team is a powerhouse, featuring Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Dan Levine from 21 Laps Entertainment, joined by Chris Ferguson of Oddfellows Pictures and Roberto Patino. James Wan and Michael Clear are producing for Atomic Monster, with Judson Scott taking on executive producer duties and Alayna Glasthal overseeing for the company. Chris White, who brought the project to Atomic Monster, serves as an executive producer. Wittney Horton is in charge of casting this ensemble of talented actors.

Duplass is represented by CAA, Bennett by Sequel Management UK and CAA, Maxwell by CAA, Myman Greenspan, and Trademark Talent, and Jogia by CAA, Berwick & Kovacik, The Characters Talent Agency, and Jackoway Austen.
