In the enthralling first trailer for "Him," a horror flick produced by Jordan Peele, Marlon Wayans unveils an unconventional training regimen tailored for an aspiring football player. Universal Pictures is gearing up to release director Justin Tipping's feature film in theaters on September 19th.
Rounding out the stellar cast are Tyriq Withers, Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies, Akeem Hayes, and Tierra Whack, who all lent their talents to this chilling tale that premiered its captivating footage at CinemaCon earlier this month.
"Him" revolves around a rising quarterback, portrayed by Withers, who receives an invitation from a seasoned but aging player, played by Wayans, to delve into the treacherous path he took to achieve success at any cost. Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie's script, which was once featured on the prestigious Black List, serves as the backbone of this haunting narrative. Monkeypaw Productions' team of Peele, Ian Cooper, Win Rosenfeld, and Jamal Watson serve as producers.
In a scene filled with eerie tension and hints of ritualistic violence, Wayans imparts wisdom to Withers, stating, "Talent is how hard you're willing to work. 'I'm never good enough' — that's how great people think. So you're going to have to ask yourself, 'What am I willing to sacrifice?'"
When Withers and Wayans took to the stage during Universal's CinemaCon presentation on April 2nd to introduce the film's footage, Wayans jestingly compared their project to a wholesome '90s sports drama, saying, "It's kinda like 'Rudy.'" Withers quickly retorted, "It's nothing at all like 'Rudy.'" He added that the film is something that "burrows under the skin," leaving viewers with a lasting impression.
Wayans posted the trailer on Instagram with an enigmatic caption: "Bro… it's different." Additionally, he is set to co-write and star in the sixth installment of the "Scary Movie" franchise, which is slated to hit theaters in summer 2026.
Withers also stars in the upcoming sequel "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and has a role lined up in "Reminders of Him," further showcasing his versatility and promising acting career.
