The eagerly anticipated adaptation of Emily Henry's bestselling novel, "People We Meet on Vacation," has officially unveiled its release date on Netflix. On Tuesday, the streaming giant debuted an enticing teaser trailer, featuring the voices of stars Emily Bader and Tom Blyth against a serene beach backdrop.
"Where does Alex Nilsen stand on travel? Love it or hate it?" inquires Bader's character, Poppy, her tone laced with curiosity. Blyth's Alex responds thoughtfully, "I mean, I've never really traveled anywhere before. But this morning, I witnessed a breathtaking sunrise over a place I'd never visited, and I wouldn't have experienced it if things had gone as planned. So, I'd say love. I'm leaning towards love."
Scheduled to premiere on Netflix on January 9, 2026, the film revolves around lifelong best friends Alex and Poppy, who have shared one week of summer vacation together for a decade—until they stopped talking. When Poppy reaches out and persuades Alex to embark on one final getaway, she views it as her opportunity to mend their fractured bond. However, there's an unspoken truth lurking in the shadows, one they must confront before they can truly reconcile.
In Henry's 2021 novel, she meticulously chronicles a gradual, friends-to-lovers romance intertwined with exhilarating travel adventures. Blyth, best known for his role in "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes," stars as Alex, while Bader, who captivated audiences in "My Lady Jane," portrays Poppy. Rounding out the talented ensemble are Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount, Lukas Gage, Miles Heizer, Tommy Do, Alice Lee, Alan Ruck, and Molly Shannon.
Brett Haley directs the film, with a screenplay penned by Yulin Kuang. Producers include Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, and Isaac Klausner of Temple Hill, while Laura Quicksilver and Erin Siminoff of Temple Hill oversee the project for 3000 Pictures.
Published by Berkley, an imprint of Penguin Random House in 2021, "People We Meet on Vacation" debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list and has sold over 2 million copies in the United States. It's just one of Henry's novels being adapted for the screen; four of her books—"Beach Read," "People We Meet on Vacation," "Book Lovers," and "Funny Story"—are in development as films, while "Happy Place" is being transformed into a Netflix series.
