"Can you enlighten me – what fresh perils await in the shadows?" CMC Pictures has unveiled an exhilarating new official trailer for "The Shadow's Edge," an action-packed thriller from China, set to grace Chinese theaters this week. Moreover, it will soon after make its debut in US and Canadian cinemas, promising a thrillingly short wait! This marks the second collaboration between martial arts legend Jackie Chan and filmmaker Larry Yang, following their joint venture in "Ride On" (2023).
"Trust crumbles. Truth distorts. Identities are but illusions. The hunt begins – a relentless pursuit, every step, every move deliberate." The legend returns once more as Jackie Chan takes center stage, locking horns with the nefarious criminal mastermind Leung Ka Fai Tony and his elite "Wolf Pack" in a high-stakes war of shadows and strategies replete with deceit. Also featuring Zhang Zi Feng, Tony Leung Ka-fai, Ci Sha, Jun, and Zhou Zheng Jie, the film promises a breathtaking showdown between these formidable talents. Yet, despite their formidable star power, early reviews suggest that this cinematic endeavor may fall short. One recent critique laments, "tragically, their combined brilliance cannot redeem the film's aimless excess... It's riddled with clichés beyond counting."
However, glimpses from the trailer hint at some breathtaking "Mission: Impossible"-inspired escape sequences that promise to thrill. Prepare for an adrenaline-pumping ride as cunning and treacherous thieves clash with the Macao Judiciary Police across multiple fronts. Struggling to contain the chaos, the Judiciary Police enlist the help of retired tracking expert Huang De Zhong, who returns to team up with the young elite of the Criminal Investigation Department. In a heart-stopping clash of traditional tracking skills and cutting-edge technology, police and criminals engage in a wits-and-brawn duel, akin to a high-stakes game of cat and mouse.
"The Shadow's Edge," originally titled "Bu Feng Zhui Ying" in Mandarin, is penned and helmed by Chinese filmmaker Larry Yang, whose credits include "Sorry I Love You," "Mountain Cry," "Another Shot," "Adoring," and of course, "Ride On" with Jackie Chan. Produced by Victoria Hon, the film is set to hit theaters in China this week. CMC Pictures will also introduce Larry Yang's "The Shadow's Edge" to select US and Canadian theaters from August 22nd, 2025.
