"Sunrise on the Reaping" weaves the tale from Suzanne Collins' latest "Hunger Games" novel, set 24 years prior to the iconic events of the original series. The narrative unfolds on the dawn of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, a harrowing event known as the Second Quarter Quell. Here, we find Plutarch Heavensbee, a future Head Gamemaker and pivotal rebellion leader, amidst the tension-filled atmosphere of District 12, as tributes are selected. Francis Lawrence, who has directed numerous acclaimed features, including the prequel "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes," returns to the helm.

Plemons, celebrated for his captivating performances in "Friday Night Lights," "Fargo," "Breaking Bad," and films like "Game Night," "Civil War," and "Killers of the Flower Moon," has an impressive lineup ahead, including Yorgos Lanthimos' "Bugonia" and Alejandro G. Iñárritu's forthcoming film starring Tom Cruise.

Erin Westerman, Co-President of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, expressed her delight, stating, "Jesse stands as one of the most gifted actors of his time, renowned for his meticulous selection of roles. We are deeply honored that he has chosen to breathe new life into one of Panem's most intriguing figures. His connection to Philip Seymour Hoffman makes this casting all the more poignant. Jesse's Plutarch will pay homage to the character fans adore while carving out a unique space as his own. We eagerly await audiences' reactions."

Producer Nina Jacobson of Color Force added, "Jesse has been a favorite of mine since his memorable turn in 'Friday Night Lights.' From the outset, we knew that only an actor's actor could portray a younger Plutarch. Jesse was our dream choice from day one, and we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome him into the 'Hunger Games' family."

Alongside Jacobson, Brad Simpson of Color Force also produces the film, slated for release on November 20, 2026. Plemons is represented by TalentWorks and Hirsch Wallerstein.

This adaptation promises to be a mesmerizing journey through the early chapters of Panem's dark history, with Plemons' portrayal of Plutarch Heavensbee set to captivate and enchant fans anew.
