Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, and acclaimed indie studio A24 are joining forces to craft a gripping legal thriller series. The independent studio outmaneuvered several rivals to secure "Discretion," a project rooted in a short story by best-selling author Chandler Baker. Kidman and Fanning are not only set to headline the series but will also wield their creative influence as executive producers. This marks a heartfelt reunion for Kidman, Fanning, and A24, who previously collaborated on Apple TV+'s "Margo’s Got Money Troubles."
Plot details remain shrouded in secrecy, but the Dallas-set narrative draws inspiration from Baker’s own experiences as a corporate attorney. Baker herself will adapt her story, with ambitions to transform "Discretion" into a long-running series. A24 is poised to pitch the project to potential buyers in the near future.
The executive producing team boasts a stellar lineup: Elle Fanning, Dakota Fanning, and Brittany Kahan Ward of Lewellen Pictures; Kidman and Per Saari for Blossom Films; Baker herself; Susannah Grant (known for "Unbelievable" and "Erin Brockovich"); Jordan Cerf; and Joe Hipps, operating under his Cut To banner at A24.
Kidman, ever the powerhouse, is fresh off the second seasons of "Nine Perfect Strangers" (Hulu) and "Lioness" (Paramount+), as well as the limited series "The Perfect Couple" (Netflix). She also has "Scarpetta" (Prime Video) in the works and the possibility of a third season of HBO’s "Big Little Lies" on the horizon, not to mention her continued involvement in "Margo’s Got Money Troubles." Recently, she wrapped filming on "Practical Magic 2" alongside Sandra Bullock.
Fanning, meanwhile, is set to shine in the upcoming "Predator: Badlands," slated for release in November, and will take on the iconic role of Effie Trinket in "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping." Her recent credits also include "A Complete Unknown" and "Sentimental Value," which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month.
Baker is currently adapting her novel "The Husbands" for an Amazon MGM Studios feature starring Kristen Wiig. She also co-wrote the screenplay for Prime Video’s upcoming holiday film "Oh. What. Fun.," based on her own short story.
Baker is represented by CAA, Writers House, Linden, and Jackoway Austen; Kidman, by CAA, Media Talent Group, and Jackoway Austen; Fanning, by UTA, TFC Management, and Hansen Jacobsen; and Grant, by UTA and Adam Berkowitz of Lenore Entertainment Group.
