This narrative unfolds around a "novel quest" emanating from the Monster Hall, where Xiaohei and his esteemed senior sister, Luye, find themselves embarking on a fresh voyage to uncover the hidden truths, confronted by an intricate web of mysteries.
The original "The Legend of Hei," featuring a mesmerizingly adorable black cat (revealed to be the wood sprite Xiaohei), premiered in 2019. With stunning, painstakingly hand-drawn animations helmed by directors MTJJ and Gu Jie, "The Legend of Hei 2" serves as the long-awaited continuation of the 2019 film, delivering a heartfelt and exhilarating tale that will captivate both new and returning audiences alike. Having debuted in China last month, it currently boasts the highest rating among all Chinese theatrical releases in 2025, with a remarkable Douban score of 8.7.

"The Legend of Hei 2" is a sequel to the 2019 film "The Legend of Hei," both of which are adapted from the animated series "The Legend of Luo Xiaohei," created by the Chinese animation studio Hanmu Chunhua (HMCH) in 2011. When an attack disrupts the delicate equilibrium between the spirit world and humanity, Hei joins forces with Luye, the last disciple of his mentor Wuxian, to unveil a conspiracy that poses a peril to both realms and the sacred oath they have sworn to uphold.
Also known as "罗小黑战记2" or "Luo Xiaohei Zhan Ji 2" in Mandarin, "The Legend of Hei 2" is directed by filmmakers MTJJ Mutou (who also directed the first "The Legend of Hei" film and the "All Saints Street" series) and Gu Jie. The screenplay is penned by Kexin Peng, Fengxishenlei, and MTJJ Mutou, with HMCH serving as the producer. The film premiered in China in July 2025, amassing approximately $49 million at the box office. GKids will introduce "The Legend of Hei 2" to US theaters beginning November 7th, 2025.
