The eagerly anticipated film, a collaborative effort of the Irish superstar, made its triumphant global debut at this year's Sundance Film Festival and is poised to captivate audiences in Edinburgh, Scotland, for its UK premiere. The much-talked-about "The Outrun," starring Saoirse Ronan, has been announced as the opening attraction for this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF).

In Nora Fingscheidt's heartfelt adaptation of Amy Liptrot's celebrated memoir, Ronan's character finds herself stranded on the windswept Orkney islands of Scotland, fighting to reclaim her life after a decade of addiction. Alongside Fingscheidt, the multi-talented Ronan, who also co-produced the film, will grace the red carpet at EIFF, which runs from August 15 to 21, alongside Amy Liptrot and the film's producers Sarah Brocklehurst and Dominic Norris.

Following its world premiere at Sundance, "The Outrun" will be released by StudioCanal in the UK and Ireland on September 27, offering audiences a chance to witness Ronan's powerful performance. EIFF has also unveiled the prestigious Thelma Schoonmaker Prize for Short Filmmaking Excellence, honoring the legendary editor who has collaborated with Martin Scorsese on iconic films like "Raging Bull," "Goodfellas," "The Wolf of Wall Street," and "Killers of the Flower Moon."

"The Outrun is a captivating film that deserves every ounce of praise," said EIFF director Paul Ridd. "It is driven by Saoirse Ronan's electric and fearless performance, a film of profound rigor and intelligence, the kind of bold work we are proud to showcase at our reinvigorated festival. Since Nora Fingscheidt's debut with 'System Crasher,' I have admired her unwavering dedication to emotional storytelling, and I am thrilled that her latest masterpiece will open our festival, with the added bonus of Thelma Schoonmaker's generous support for our shorts prize. We are honored to collaborate with such remarkable women of cinema."

"The Outrun" was nurtured and produced by Brocklehurst of Brock Media, Norris of Arcade Pictures, Ronan, and Jack Lowden, with invaluable support from BBC Film and Screen Scotland.
