Shrek 5 welcomes SNL's Marcello Hernandez and James Gunn's Superman co-star Skyler Gisondo, who played Jimmy Olsen, to lend their voices to Shrek's son Fergus and Farkle. The announcement, made via Shrek's official Instagram account, showcased a playful exchange of text messages between Hernandez and Gisondo, with Hernandez joking, "I might have gone a bit overboard," accompanied by photos of himself in green body paint as Fergus. Gisondo, in turn, shared a picture wearing a hat and advising Hernandez, "Buddy, these look amazing, but you know we're just doing the voices, right?"
Both Hernandez and Gisondo bring impressive resumes to the project. Hernandez is known for roles in Happy Gilmore 2, the TV mini-series Dying for Sex, and will be lending his voice to The Angry Birds Movie 3. He is set to star in the upcoming comedy film 72 Hours. Meanwhile, Skyler, who played Jimmy in Superman, has credits in titles such as Licorice Pizza, Booksmart, Vacation, The Righteous Gemstones, and Santa Clarita Diet. He will next be seen playing the son of Ben Stiller and Teri Polo in the Meet the Parents sequel titled Focker-in-Law.
Joining these new additions, Shrek 5 will reprise the beloved roles of Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Fiona. Universal Pictures has also brought Zendaya on board as Shrek and Fiona's daughter, Félicia. The film is slated to hit theatres on June 30, 2027.
