Details surrounding the plot of this Star Wars-spoofing comedy sequel remain shrouded in mystery. However, Kevin Salter steps in as executive producer, promising a hilarious and entertaining ride.

The writing duo of Samit and Hernandez are renowned for their work on hit films like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle: Mutant Mayhem, Pokémon Detective Pikachu, Addams Family 2, and the upcoming Disney+/Lucasfilm special, Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy.

Originally released by MGM in 1987, a decade after George Lucas' sci-fi masterpiece Star Wars took the world by storm, Spaceballs starred Bill Pullman, John Candy, Rick Moranis, and Daphne Zuniga. Joan Rivers lent her voice to a hilarious C-3P0 parody. Despite earning $38.1 million at the box office (equivalent to $105 million today), the film didn't quite strike a chord with critics, receiving mixed reviews. But in the years that followed, it has garnered a loyal cult following and is now regarded as one of Brooks's signature films.

Earlier this month, Gad teased fans about the project with a cryptic Instagram post, revealing glimpses of a blocked-out script cover page. "Just handed in a film script that I think may be the funniest and best thing I’ve ever worked on and I am so freaking excited," Gad captioned the post. He further gushed about his collaboration with Samit and Hernandez, calling it "heaven on Earth and many other planets as well. Love you boys!"

The InSneider was the first to break the news about the sequel, and excitement is already building among fans eager to see what this hilarious new chapter in the Spaceballs franchise will bring.
