Disney has officially set the film’s release date for May 28, 2027, following an earlier announcement made this year at the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo. While plot details remain tightly under wraps, this standalone adventure is expected to unfold approximately five years after the events of 2019’s *Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker*, the last major theatrical release from the iconic franchise. Meanwhile, Jon Favreau’s *The Mandalorian & Grogu*, a spinoff of the beloved Disney+ series, is slated for a theatrical debut on May 22, 2026.

The cast of *Star Wars: Starfighter* also includes Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams, rounding out an ensemble of stellar talent. At an April fan event, Gosling shared his enthusiasm with the crowd, stating, “The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters. It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”

The screenplay, penned by Jonathan Tropper, has been in development under Levy’s guidance since 2022. Both Levy and Kathleen Kennedy are on board as producers. Levy, whose recent directorial credits include Disney’s blockbuster hit *Deadpool & Wolverine* and Netflix’s *The Adam Project*, brings a wealth of experience to the project.

Looking ahead, Gosling is set to take center stage next year as the lead in Amazon MGM Studios’ *Project Hail Mary*, promising yet another thrilling performance for audiences worldwide.
