The eagerly anticipated "Street Fighter" movie has slipped into a state of uncertainty, while Phoebe Dynevor's heart-pounding shark thriller is poised to make waves—albeit slightly later than anticipated. Sony Pictures has silently removed Legendary's "Street Fighter" film from its cinematic lineup, having once scheduled it for a March 20, 2026, debut. Rooted in the iconic video game series, this ambitious project, co-created and produced alongside Capcom, remains shrouded in secrecy as its cast has yet to be revealed.

Last month, The Hollywood Reporter disclosed that Kitao Sakurai, the visionary director behind Netflix's 2021 comedy feature "Bad Trip," was tapped to helm this video game adaptation. Prior to this appointment, Danny and Michael Philippou (of "Talk to Me" fame) had been attached to a previous iteration of the film. Notably, Sony and Legendary's distribution agreement expired last year.

Meanwhile, Tommy Wirkola's shark-infested feature starring Dynevor has undergone a title transformation, now christened "Shiver," having been initially known as "Beneath the Storm." Scheduled for a dazzling summer release on July 3, 2026, the Sony film has been rescheduled from its original August 1, 2025, date. Whitney Peak and Djimon Hounsou join Dynevor in this thrilling venture, with Adam McKay and Kevin Messick steering the ship as producers. "Shiver" is set to clash with Universal's "Minions 3," which has also staked its claim on the Fourth of July weekend in 2026.

The "Street Fighter" saga began with the groundbreaking arcade fighting game in 1987, followed by the phenomenally popular "Street Fighter II" in 1991. A cinematic adaptation bearing the same name graced theaters in 1994, featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Raúl Juliá as M. Bison, and Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li. A decade and a half later, 20th Century Fox released "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li."

Hollywood has recognized the potential goldmine in video game adaptations, inspired by the recent triumphs of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" and the "Sonic the Hedgehog" franchise. Warner Bros.' "A Minecraft Movie" is set to enchant audiences in theaters next month.
