Sydney Sweeney is poised to take the lead in an intriguing Miramax drama, titled "Scandalous." The talented actress will reunite with her "Euphoria" co-star Colman Domingo, who will don the director's hat for this venture, marking his maiden feature film directorial debut. As the veil of secrecy shrouds other aspects of the film, it is whispered that production will commence once Domingo and Sweeney wrap up their duties for the third season of HBO's "Euphoria."
According to Deadline, "Scandalous," described as a "swiftly advancing" drama, will unravel the clandestine love saga between legendary film star Kim Novak, renowned for her roles in "Vertigo," "Picnic," and "The Notorious Landlady," and the multi-talented singer-actor Sammy Davis Jr., celebrated for his work in "Tap" and "Ocean's 11."
While much remains in the shadows regarding the film's intricacies, it is anticipated to spotlight the passionate affair that jeopardized the careers of Novak and Davis Jr. during their heyday. Their romance stirred up quite a storm in 1957, earning them widespread criticism as interracial relationships were met with harsh disapproval in that era.
Sweeney, joined by "Alien: Romulus" actor David Jonsson as Davis Jr., will embody the role of Novak. Penned by Matthew Fantaci, Sweeney will also lend her hands as a producer alongside Tani Cohen and Bobby Roth, while Jon Levin will serve as the executive producer.
This announcement trails closely on the heels of Sweeney's involvement in Paul Feig's "The Housemaid" and the still-untitled Christy Martin biopic. Beyond "Euphoria," her impressive resume boasts roles in "Clementine," "Nocturne," "The Voyeurs," "Reality," "Americana," "Anyone but You," "Immaculate," "The Handmaid's Tale," and "The White Lotus."
Renowned for his portrayals of Augustus Sackey in "Industry" and Dom in "Rye Lane," Jonsson's acting credits also include "Bonhoeffer," "Deep State," and "Murder is Easy." Audiences can soon catch him in "The Long Walk," a forthcoming horror flick helmed by Francis Lawrence.
Meanwhile, Colman has left his directorial imprint on episodes of "Fear the Walking Dead." His filmography boasts stints in movies like "Candyman," "Rustin," "Sing Sing," and "The Color Purple," among a stellar array of others.
