Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Jenna Ortega, the star of "Wednesday," and Taylor Russell, renowned for her role in "Bones and All," are in negotiations to lead the remake of the iconic 1992 horror drama, "Single White Female." Elizabeth Gabler's 3000 Pictures, in partnership with Sony, aims to revitalize the chilling tale originally starring Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh, which was directed by Barbet Schroeder and adapted from John Lutz's 1990 novel, "SWF Seeks Same," co-written for the screen by Lutz and Don Roos.

Both Russell and Ortega are set to take center stage and serve as producers in this upcoming reinterpretation. Sony has declined to comment on the project, which was first reported by The Insider.

In the original film, Fonda portrayed Allison, a woman who, in a twist of fate, invites Hedra (Leigh) into her Upper West Side apartment as a roommate, only to find herself sharing space with a terrifying stalker worthy of the most suspenseful thrillers. Distributed by Sony's Columbia Pictures, "Single White Female" was produced on a budget of $16 million and grossed an impressive $48 million domestically.

The 2005 direct-to-video sequel, "Single White Female 2: The Psycho," starring Kristen Miller, failed to capture the same magic, but the reboot from 3000 Pictures promises a fresh perspective, notably with Ortega and Russell breaking the mold by not being white.

Ortega, who captivated audiences as Wednesday Addams in Netflix's "Wednesday," also stars in A24's "Death of a Unicorn," alongside Paul Rudd, portraying a father-daughter duo who accidentally strike a unicorn with their car and embark on an unexpected journey to a wealthy pharmaceutical executive's wilderness retreat. Additionally, Ortega will shine in "Hurry Up Tomorrow," the debut feature from pop star The Weeknd, set for a theatrical release on May 16th, where she'll embody the role of Anima alongside Barry Keoghan as Lee.

Russell, who rose to fame in Trey Edward Shults' family drama "Waves," also delivered a powerful performance alongside Timothée Chalamet in Luca Guadagnino's cannibal love story "Bones and All," portraying the character of Maren. Russell's upcoming projects include "Hope," directed by Na Hong-jin, and "The Thomas Crown Affair," helmed by and co-starring Michael B. Jordan.

This remake of "Single White Female" promises to be a thrilling ride, led by two talented and dynamic actresses who are poised to breathe new life into this iconic horror drama.
