Director Michael Chaves of "The Conjuring" fame, alongside Chief Architect Peter Safran, provided an enlightening glimpse into the creation of the franchise's climactic chapter, "The Conjuring: Last Rites." In an exclusive interview, Safran revealed the intriguing tale behind the movie's original title, which bore a striking resemblance to "Avengers: Endgame," and how they eventually opted for a change.

"During the film's gestation period, we affectionately referred to it as 'Conjuring: Endgame,' as it marked the grand finale of a narrative journey that our audience had been avidly following," Safran confided to Entertainment Weekly. He emphasized that, contrary to popular misconception, there was no intention of模仿 "Avengers: Endgame." Instead, he sought to harness the power of storytelling through the lens of Ed and Lorraine Warren, cultivating an engaged audience.

Safran further elaborated that, recognizing this as the series' swansong, they were determined to craft an experience that was profoundly satisfying and deeply emotional. However, Chaves admitted to a fleeting moment of contemplation where they toyed with the idea of fashioning the movie after a Marvel epic, amassing an array of demonic adversaries previously vanquished by Ed and Lorraine Warren.

"Though that notion briefly captivated our imagination, we soon abandoned it. I was convinced that the most impactful and heart-wrenching story we could tell was one that resonated on a personal level," he added.

"The Conjuring: Last Rites" resumes five years after the events of "The Devil Made Me Do It," set in 1986, where Ed (played by Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (portrayed by Vera Farmiga) emerge from retirement to delve into the haunting of the Smurl family. This case will also prominently feature Judy Warren (Mia Tomlinson), the couple's daughter now in her twenties and involved in a relationship with her future spouse, Tony Spera (played by Ben Hardy).

Rebecca Calder ("Wrath of Man") and Elliot Cowan ("Foundation") essay the roles of Janet and Jack Smurl, while Kíla Lord Cassidy ("Heather"), Beau Gadsdon ("Dawn"), Tilly Walker ("Carin"), and Molly Cartwright ("Shannon") breathe life into their daughters. Peter Wight ("Grandpa Smurl") and Kate Fahy ("Grandma Smurl") portray Jack's grandparents.

Mark your calendars for September 5th, 2025, as "The Conjuring: Last Rites" prepares to make its highly anticipated premiere.
