Next up from acclaimed director Jaume Collet-Serra, whose credits include the chilling "House of Wax," the gripping "Orphan," and the tense "The Shallows," is the highly anticipated Universal and Blumhouse thriller, "The Woman in the Yard." The eerie first trailer has arrived, offering a foreboding glimpse of the enigmatic title character that sends shivers down one's spine.
Scheduled for a theatrical release on March 28, 2025, the new trailer unveils a haunting figure: a solitary, strange woman cloaked entirely in black, who materializes inexplicably on a family's front lawn, delivering a chilling warning, "Today's the day."
Danielle Deadwyler, who wowed audiences with her performances in "Till," "The Harder They Fall," and "The Piano Lesson," stars as Ramona, a woman consumed by grief after surviving a tragic car accident that claimed the life of her husband (played by Russell Hornsby of "BMF" and "Fences"). Seriously injured and left to fend for herself, Ramona must now care for their 14-year-old son (Peyton Jackson of "Respect" and "American Refugee") and 6-year-old daughter (Estella Kahiha of "Will Trent" and "BMF") in their isolated farmhouse.
But the tranquility of their rural haven is shattered when the mysterious woman manifests in their yard. Ramona initially assumes the woman (portrayed with chilling realism by Okwui Okpokwasili of "The Exorcist: Believer" and "Julie Taymor's A Midsummer Night's Dream") is lost or mentally unstable. However, as the woman inches closer to their home, it becomes terrifyingly clear that she is far from ordinary and her intentions are anything but benevolent. Ramona must now summon every ounce of strength and courage to shield herself and her children from the relentless grip of the woman who refuses to leave them in peace.
Collet-Serra helms this suspenseful film, penned by first-time feature screenwriter Sam Stefanak. "The Woman in the Yard" also marks a reunion between Collet-Serra and Deadwyler, who previously collaborated on the action thriller "Carry On." Deadwyler, best known for her roles in the biopic "Till" and the Western "The Harder They Fall," has also ventured into the horror genre with A24's "I Saw the TV Glow." In addition to starring, Deadwyler executive produces the film alongside Collet-Serra, Gabrielle Ebron, Scott Greenberg, and James Mora. Producers Jason Blum and Stephanie Allain oversee the project.
Prepare to be captivated and terrified by "The Woman in the Yard" as it brings a fresh chill to the thriller genre.
