Topher Grace has signed on alongside Cristin Milioti for "Buddy," an independently produced horror thriller helmed by Casper Kelly, whose credits include co-creating the Adult Swim series "Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell" and the viral horror comedy sensation "Too Many Cooks." Kelly is not only directing this feature but has also co-penned the screenplay with Jamie King, who previously contributed to the Disney+ family film "World's Best." Production is currently in full swing in Ohio, shrouding the plot details in mystery while billing the project as a "novel horror experience."
J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules are spearheading the production through their BoulderLight Pictures, a production company enjoying a bustling year with titles like "Companion," "Friendship," and the forthcoming horror film "Weapons." Tyler Davidson and Drew Sykes of Low Spark Films, a Cleveland, Ohio-based outfit behind credits such as "Emily the Criminal" and "Take Shelter," are also producing and co-financing the venture. Tracy Rosenblum, BoulderLight's VP of Development & Production, serves as executive producer. The film is being produced in collaboration with Sipur Studios ("Bad Boy") and Substance, with Range Select and UTA co-representing its distribution rights.
Grace, whose career skyrocketed with his endearing lead role in the iconic sitcom "That '70s Show," has since dedicated himself to roles that defy that stereotype. This year alone, he co-starred in Kevin Williamson's Netflix crime drama "The Waterfront," portraying a charismatic yet dangerous drug dealer. He also starred as a fugitive informant fighting for survival against a deranged Mark Wahlberg in Lionsgate's action thriller "Flight Risk." Last year, he impressed audiences in A24's acclaimed and award-nominated psychological horror film "Heretic." Next up, Grace will share the screen with Glen Powell and Margaret Qualley in A24's thriller "Huntington." He is represented by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Hirsch Wallerstein.
This horror thriller promises to be a chilling journey into the unknown, led by a talented ensemble and visionary director.
