Raye, the 28-year-old award-winning singer, is all set to make her acting debut in a new London-based crime drama titled "Lineage." Joining her on screen will be the esteemed French actress, Isabelle Huppert, in this upcoming film directed by the renowned French filmmaker Yann Demange, who is known for his work on projects such as "Top Boy."

The film, described as a contemporary crime drama set in multicultural London, follows the story of Tariq, a man released from prison who strives to reconnect with his son and rebuild his life. However, things take a turn for the worse when Tariq is once again pulled into London's criminal underworld by his own brother seeking his help. The narrative also delves into the lives of their formidable mother, a crime boss at the center of it all. The screenplay is penned by Enda Walsh, known for his work on films like "Small Things Like These."
Raye's character details have not been revealed yet, and there is currently no official release date for the movie. However, Demange described the project as a personal venture and called it a "love letter" to the London he grew up in.
"Lineage is a homecoming for me in many ways. [It has] characters I know very well at the center of the story, including a formidable crime boss matriarch," said Demange. He further added, "It's important to me that the film both honors and delivers on the crime genre in an exciting and fresh way, while simultaneously exploring the complexities of family and the possibility of transcending one's beginnings."
Demange expressed his desire for the movie to feel fresh and exciting while also focusing on family relationships and emotional struggles. Producer Thomas Benski also praised the project as ambitious and cinematic.
"Lineage is bold, filmmaker-driven cinema with true artistic ambition and global commercial appeal," said Benski, who called Demange a "singular cinematic voice and one of the most distinctive filmmakers of his generation."
With its intricate storyline and talented cast, "Lineage" promises to be an engaging and emotionally resonant film that explores the darker side of London while still managing to touch on the complexities of family dynamics.
