Will Smith is teasing his fans with the exciting news that a sequel to the 2008 hit "Hancock" is currently in the works and has expressed his desire for Zendaya to join the cast. The actor made a surprise guest appearance on xQc's live stream on Twitch, where he engaged with his fans and answered their eager questions.
"There's a truly fantastic idea for 'Hancock 2' brewing," Smith revealed during the lively stream. "We haven't even had a formal discussion about it yet, but it's coming." He added with a grin, "I'll give you a little sneak peek: Zendaya is being considered for a pivotal role in 'Hancock 2'."
"Hancock," directed by Peter Berg and based on a screenplay by Vince Gilligan and Vy Vincent Ngo, is a superhero film that revolves around Smith's character, an amnesiac, alcoholic, and reckless superhero struggling to piece together his past. The film, which also starred Charlize Theron, Jason Bateman, and Eddie Marsan, has had fans eagerly anticipating a sequel since its release.
As far back as 2009, Berg revealed to MTV News with excitement that both Smith and Theron would be reprising their roles for the sequel, confidently asserting, "Everyone is on board to return for the next chapter." In 2012, when queried about the latest developments on the "Hancock" sequel, Berg expressed that it was merely a "matter of time" before cameras would start rolling on the film.
"We've been discussing the sequel amongst ourselves - Will Smith, producers Michael Mann and Akiva Goldman, and myself," Berg shared with Comicbookmovie.com in 2012. "We're all eager to make it, but finding the right time to get everyone in the same room has been a challenge. Last year, we had a series of meetings and started to develop an idea for the sequel - Will Smith actually came up with the concept. So, I believe it will happen; it's just a matter of timing."
In 2020, Theron acknowledged that discussions for "Hancock 2" had taken place and expressed her enthusiasm for starring in the sequel if it ever came to fruition. "For a while, we [talked about a sequel]," Theron revealed to ComicBook. "It was closer to when the movie first came out, but not in recent years. By the time we make it, we'll probably be superheroes with our walkers! But I'd still do it in a heartbeat."
