This summer, Lionsgate embarks on a journey back to the tumultuous early 1990s, hand in hand with the dynamic duo of Tyrese Gibson and Snoop Dogg. On Monday, the company revealed its plans to unleash Ariel Vromen's gripping crime thriller, '1992,' in theaters on August 30th. Snoop Dogg joins the fray as an executive producer through his Death Row Pictures, while Gibson, renowned for his roles in the 'Fast & Furious' franchise, stars alongside Scott Eastwood and the late Ray Liotta in one of his final cinematic appearances.

The trailer captivates with Gibson portraying Mercer, a man seeking to rebuild his life and mend bridges with his son (Christopher Ammannuel) during the tumultuous aftermath of the Rodney King verdict. Mercer's path crosses with a father-son duo (Liotta and Eastwood) hell-bent on stealing catalytic converters from his workplace.

Vromen, known for his work in 'The Iceman,' directs this heart-racing thriller from a screenplay he co-wrote with Sascha Penn. Alongside Vromen, Penn, Andreas Rommel, Maurice Fadida, and Adam Kolbrenner take on producer roles, while '1992' marks a reunion for Snoop Dogg and Gibson, who previously shared the screen in John Singleton's 2001 drama 'Baby Boy.'

"1992 was a pivotal year for me, from 'Deep Cover' to 'The Chronic,'" reminisced Snoop Dogg. "As my life was coming together, Los Angeles was unraveling. '1992' is a heist film that encapsulates all that chaos. It's a film about a defining moment in L.A. Ariel crafted an outstanding narrative that brings that time to life. From my initial collaboration with Tyrese in 'Baby Boy' to our roles in '1992,' I had to be a part of this. And it's only fitting that Death Row Pictures, synonymous with L.A. culture in the '90s, is backing this film."

Gibson echoed Snoop Dogg's sentiment, lauding his co-star's involvement and expressing his gratitude for working with Liotta, who passed away in May 2022. "Ray Liotta blessed us all with his presence in this film," said Gibson. "For '1992' to be Ray's swan song, we're privileged to have captured such a brilliant and haunting performance."

Adam Fogelson, the chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, also commended Gibson's dedication and enthusiasm. "I'm grateful to have witnessed Tyrese's infectious energy and talent on our various collaborations over the years," said Fogelson. "And Snoop Dogg's personal connection to the material makes Death Row Pictures the ideal partner for this project."
