The Grammy-honored British singer, Adele, is poised to make her acting debut in a forthcoming film by the fashion designer and director, Tom Ford. The project, an adaptation of the 1982 Anne Rice novel "Cry to Heaven," marks Ford's third cinematic venture, following his Oscar-nominated directorial debut with "A Single Man" in 2009 and the critically acclaimed crime thriller "Nocturnal Animals" in 2016.

Set against the backdrop of 18th-century Italy, "Cry to Heaven" chronicles an unlikely duo - a Venetian noble and a castrated maestro - who forge an unlikely partnership to leave their mark on the opera world. The film is in pre-production in London and Rome, with shooting set to commence in the new year, with a projected release in 2026.

Adele is currently enjoying a much-deserved break from the music scene after completing her impressive residency in Las Vegas. She recently declared, "I don't have any plans for new music, at all. I want a big break after this, and I think I want to explore other creative endeavors for a little while." The singer had previously hinted at a long wait for her fifth album, telling her audience during a 'Weekends with Adele' Las Vegas performance last year that she didn't foresee writing an album for quite some time.

Tom Ford, who launched his eponymous fashion brand after serving as creative director at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, returned to the director's chair for "Cry to Heaven." His previous films, "A Single Man" and "Nocturnal Animals," garnered him critical acclaim and awards, including an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Michael Shannon in the latter. With an impressive cast including Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Thandiwe Newton, Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Paul Bettany, Nicholas Hoult, and Owen Cooper - the breakout star of Netflix's drama series Adolescence and this year's youngest male Emmy winner - "Cry to Heaven" is shaping up to be a highly anticipated film.
