In the bustling landscape of Hollywood, it would be nearly impossible to pinpoint a more relentless spirit than Nicole Kidman. Over the past year or so, she has left her mark with an impressive slate that includes Expats, A Family Affair, The Perfect Couple, Spellbound, Babygirl, and the second season of Lioness. As we usher in 2025, she returns with yet another cinematic gem, Holland. In this Prime Video offering, Kidman transforms into a seemingly idyllic teacher and homemaker residing in the quaint midwestern town of Holland, Michigan. Amidst the tranquil setting, she grows suspicious of her husband (brilliantly portrayed by Matthew Macfadyen) leading a clandestine double life. Together with her friend (played by Gael García Bernal), they embark on a journey that unearths a bizarre and entangled secret.
Holland premiered at SXSW in Austin on a sun-kissed Sunday, with Kidman sharing with The Hollywood Reporter a glimpse of relief on the horizon. She noted with a chuckle, “This year is actually not as manic. Last year was much more hectic for me. Now, with Holland and Nine Perfect Strangers lined up, I’m off to enjoy the rest of the year. So, oh well!” Furthermore, Kidman donned the hat of a producer for Holland, helmed by the Emerging filmmaker Mimi Cave. The director lauded Kidman, stating, “She was an unwavering advocate for the script and for me. Honestly, her unwavering belief in directors is her greatest contribution. Once a project is in our hands, she empowers us to bring our vision to life.”
Macfadyen revealed his initial reaction upon reading the script: “I thought it was absolutely nuts!” He was irresistibly pulled into the realm of mystery-thriller, a genre he hadn’t explored before. He elaborated, “I found it tonally fascinating, stylized, chic, and entertaining. After witnessing Mimi’s debut film, I was thoroughly impressed and yearned to be a part of her vision.”
Get ready to be enthralled as Holland starts streaming on Prime Video from March 27.
