Aimee Lou Wood failed to find humor in Saturday Night Live's (SNL) "White Potus" sketch, which poked fun at her White Lotus character, Chelsea's teeth. Following her 31-year-old self denouncing the parody as neither "funny" nor "kind," she returned to Instagram to inform her fans that SNL had issued an apology. The Sex Education alum further clarified that she harbored no ill will towards Sarah Sherman, who portrayed Chelsea in the sketch. "Not @sarahsquirm's fault," Wood penned in a fresh Instagram Story, emphasizing, "I'm not mad at her; I'm mad at the concept."
These sentiments echoed her earlier Instagram posts, where she elaborated on how her fondness for the comedy sketch show had soured after watching the April 12th episode. "Such a pity because I had a blast watching it a couple of weeks back. Yes, mock me by all means – that's what the show is all about – but couldn't there be a sharper, more refined, less tacky approach?" she had written earlier on Sunday, April 13th.
"I genuinely enjoy being mocked when it's witty and in good fun. But this joke was about fluoride. I have wide-spaced teeth, not bad teeth. I don't mind caricatures – I get that's SNL's gig," she added. "However, the rest of the sketch was elevating its targets, while I/Chelsea was the only one brought down."
The sketch that offended Wood featured John Hamm and Sherman as Rick and Chelsea. During the sketch, Hamm, portraying Robert F. Kennedy, inquired of Sherman, "I've been having these wild thoughts, like what if we removed all the fluoride from the drinking water? What would that do to people's teeth? Fluoride? What's that?"
