At the prestigious Golden Globes tonight, Ali Wong secured a landmark victory, clinching the ceremony's second-ever award for Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. In her heartfelt speech, she paid glowing tribute to her Bay Area origins. "I hail from San Francisco, where my stand-up journey began," she emotionally declared. "Without the countless stage hours and invaluable practice I gained there, I wouldn't be standing here today."

Wong extended her gratitude to Molly Schminke from the SF Punch Line comedy club and her cherished best friend Mia, capping her speech with, "Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unwavering love and support over the years. This honor truly means the world to me."

Her Netflix special, Single Lady, earned her the nomination. This Globe follows closely on the heels of her triumph for her lead role in the inaugural season of Netflix's critically acclaimed anthology series Beef. Among the esteemed comedians she outshone at the ceremony were Nikki Glaser (Someday You’ll Die), who hosted the event, Seth Meyers (Dad Man Walking), Ramy Youssef (More Feelings), Jamie Foxx (What Had Happened Was), and Adam Sandler (Love You).

Netflix continued its dominance in this category, having previously seen Ricky Gervais win the inaugural award for his special Armageddon. Between Wong, Foxx, and Sandler, Netflix represented half of the nominated specials, going head-to-head with HBO, which boasted the other three.

Recently directing the first hour-long special of comedian Frankie Quiñones for Hulu, Wong reached new heights with her starring role in the groundbreaking first season of Netflix's Beef, opposite Steven Yeun. She made history as the first Asian woman to win the Lead Actress Emmy for her performance, while also garnering a Globe and other accolades. Additionally, she executive produced and starred in Netflix's animated series Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld, further cementing her status as a force to be reckoned with in the comedy world.
