Alison Brie is poised to take center stage in an FX drama pilot, a collaborative endeavor from the talented duo of Hannah Fidell and Gina Welch. The official synopsis paints a vivid picture: "A harrowing clash propels a high-profile madam from Washington D.C. (played by Brie) to betray her partner and seek refuge in the coastal tranquility of Maine's seaside, accompanied by her teenage daughter, under the shield of witness protection."
This ambitious project first garnered attention in March 2023 with a pilot commitment. Initially, David Chase, renowned for his creative prowess, was on board as co-creator and executive producer, drawing inspiration from one of his unproduced scripts, which Fidell thoughtfully adapted for contemporary audiences. However, according to insiders, scheduling conflicts with an upcoming film venture forced Chase to step away from the project.
Fidell and Welch assume the roles of writers, executive producers, and co-showrunners, with Fidell also donning the director's hat. Nicole Lambert of Riverain Pictures retains her position as an executive producer, while FX Productions serves as the studio behind this captivating tale.
Brie's storied acting career includes acclaimed performances in AMC's "Mad Men," where she shone as Trudy Campbell, and the beloved NBC sitcom "Community," which is currently gearing up for a feature film sequel at Peacock. She has also led the charge in Netflix's animated series "BoJack Horseman" and the live-action hit "GLOW," the latter earning her two Golden Globe nominations. Her filmography boasts credits in "Somebody I Used to Know," which she starred in, produced, and co-wrote alongside her husband, Dave Franco, as well as the "The Lego Movie" franchise, "Promising Young Woman," and the forthcoming "Masters of the Universe" film.
Fidell made her directorial debut with "A Teacher," which premiered at the prestigious 2013 Sundance Film Festival. She also wrote and produced the film, which later inspired an FX limited series of the same name, starring Kate Mara and Nick Robinson. As writer, director, showrunner, and executive producer of the series, Fidell demonstrated her versatility and prowess. She has also penned and directed "6 Years" and "A Long Dumb Road," the latter of which she also produced. More recently, she has lent her directorial skills to episodes of "Pam & Tommy," "The Act," and "Casual."
Welch, meanwhile, is the creative force behind the FX miniseries "Clipped," which delves into the story of former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling and coach Doc Rivers. She also contributed to FX's "Under the Banner of Heaven" and worked on shows like "The Terror" and "Station Eleven."
Brie is represented by WME, Rise Management, and Sloane Offer, while Fidell is managed by Untitled, UTA, and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz. Welch is represented by Untitled, CAA, and Johnson, Shapiro, Slewett, & Kole.
FX's slate of pilots in development is burgeoning, with notable mentions including Peter Gould's "Disinherited," the "Snowfall" spinoff starring Gail Bean and Isaiah John, and the intriguing drama "Seven Sisters," featuring Elizabeth Olsen and Cristin Milioti.
