Amanda Seyfried ventured into a realm of plastic artistry in a strikingly novel way. The star of "The Testament of Ann Lee" revealed that she donned a "prosthetic butthole" while filming a daring nude scene for the 2025 film directed by Mona Fastvoid. "This movie required a level of graphic detail," Amanda said during a Feb. 25 appearance on BBC Radio 2, adding, "So, yes, I had a prosthetic butthole."
The 40-year-old actress, whose character becomes the revered founder of a religious group called The Shakers in the critically acclaimed drama, also shared that she wore a merkin, or pubic wig, for the nude shoot, which takes place in the story's final act. For Amanda, the additional coverage on her body made her experience feel "cool" and "exciting" on set.
"I was pregnant and naked, but I wasn't truly naked," she continued. "And at the end of the movie, I'm standing in front of a burning building with just a merkin. I felt so liberated."
Despite her previous reservations about filming in the nude, Amanda enjoyed stripping down for "The Testament of Ann Lee." In fact, she previously admitted to having regrets over agreeing to go naked for projects when she was still a teenager.
"Being 19 and walking around without my underwear on—what was I thinking?" Amanda told Porter in a 2022 interview. "I wanted to keep my job and not upset anyone. That's why I did it."
But that doesn't mean she looks back negatively on her early career. In fact, she recently joked that she hopes one of her lines as Karen Smith in 2004's "Mean Girls" will be quoted "on her grave."
"It was, in many ways, a perfect movie, and people still relate to it," she said on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast in March 2025. "It connected us and continues to do so. I will always be excited to talk about it."
