Luke Bryan isn't quite sure if he's ready to hang up his cowboy boots just yet when it comes to his judging days on "American Idol." The esteemed judge hinted in an interview with Taste of Country, published on July 30, that his involvement in the upcoming 24th season of the ABC singing competition—whose return date is still under wraps—hasn't been solidified. "It's more of a year-by-year decision with 'American Idol,'" Luke revealed. "Do we do it or not? We'll just have to see how things unfold."
While the country music sensation remains uncertain about his future with the show, he fondly reminisced about his time on season 23, sharing the spotlight with fellow judges Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie, alongside host Ryan Seacrest. "Last year was truly extraordinary, with Carrie, Lionel, and Ryan by my side," Luke continued. "The essence of it all is to have a blast with 'American Idol' and to cherish every moment with the contestants."
As for whether Carrie, the singer behind the hit "Rain is a Good Thing," enjoyed her inaugural season as a judge, Luke believes she thoroughly embraced the experience. "She absolutely loved it," Luke shared, expressing his optimism that Carrie will reprise her role for season 24. "I'm confident my prediction will be in her favor."
Moreover, Luke, known for his hit "Before He Cheats," has garnered praise from former "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell. "I think it's an excellent choice," Simon, who now sits on the judging panel of "America's Got Talent," told E! News in September. "Carrie and I go way back. I recall her audition as if it were yesterday. She was outstanding, a genuine sweetheart."
Simon also imparted some wisdom to the newest addition to the judging panel. "Just speak your mind," he advised. "This job isn't as daunting as you might think, I assure you. We all feel similarly, yet we don't always agree—thank goodness for that. Otherwise, life would be dull. And most importantly, enjoy every moment."
Conversely, Carrie was determined to approach her role with positivity, a marked departure from Simon's reputation in his early "Idol" days. "I aim to be honest and constructive, yet kind," she shared on SiriusXM's Music Row Happy Hour last August. "That's the crux of it, because these contestants are pursuing their dreams. You become a part of their journey from that very moment."
