Andrew Garfield Calls Discussing This ‘Private’ Topic a ‘Violation’

Andrew Garfield has opened up about his aversion to sharing his "private sanctum," a realm he is known for tightly guarding. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair's Hollywood edition, the Oscar-nominated actor candidly discussed his refusal to discuss his dating life. Despite being romantically linked with actress Monica Barbaro since February, Garfield continues to keep their relationship under wraps, rarely offering any glimpses into their personal lives.

"It feels like a violation of my inner world, my private world," Garfield explained. "I thought maybe that would soften at some point, but I'm very surprised to say that it hasn't," he added.

This isn't the first time Garfield has explained his preference to maintain strict boundaries. In October 2024, he told Esquire, "I have never, and I won't ever, speak about or confirm or deny anything about my personal life with anyone. Ever."

Garfield and Barbaro first sparked romance rumors in February this year when fans spotted the couple enjoying a performance of Jonathan Bailey's Richard II in London together. People later confirmed that they are officially dating and have been in a relationship. Apart from occasional appearances at public events, the couple maintains a relatively low profile.

In an upcoming biographical drama film titled Artificial, directed by Luca Guadagnino, Garfield and Barbaro will share the screen for the first time. The movie centers on OpenAI's removal of Sam Altman as CEO in 2023. Garfield stars as Altman, while Barbaro plays Mira Murati, the former Chief Technology Officer at OpenAI. The other cast members include Yura Borisov, Cooper Koch, Cooper Hoffman, Ike Barinholtz, and Jason Schwartzman. The movie recently wrapped filming in October and has yet to confirm a release date.
