Angelina Jolie Is Prepping Her Historic Home for Sale amid Plans to Leave L.A. and Move Abroad

Angelina Jolie, the renowned actress and star of "Maria," at the age of 50, is reportedly set to bid farewell to her historic Los Angeles abode. A source close to the matter has informed PEOPLE that Jolie is officially contemplating "listing the mansion for sale," as she ponders a move overseas. The news was initially broken by Page Six.

According to the source, Jolie "has never been fully inclined towards residing in L.A. Her hands were tied due to the custody arrangement she shares with her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, 61." The former couple, who finalized their divorce settlement in December 2024 after an eight-year legal saga, are the proud parents of six children: Maddox, 24, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and the twins, Knox and Vivienne, 17.

The insider further reveals that Jolie "intends to relocate once Knox and Vivienne turn 18 next year. She is scouting various international locations and eagerly anticipates the day she can leave Los Angeles behind." Speaking of Jolie's L.A. home, the source remarks, "It's a historic masterpiece, a breathtaking estate par excellence."

Another well-informed individual confirms that the writer-director of "Without Blood" intends to sell the property after carrying out minor renovations. Jolie acquired this historic 1913-built mansion in 2017 for a whopping $24.5 million, as revealed by a source to PEOPLE back then. Spread across 11,000 square feet, the expansive property boasts six bedrooms and ten bathrooms.

Its Hollywood connections render it a unique gem, having once been purchased by director Cecil B. DeMille for less than $28,000 in 1916, as previously reported by PEOPLE. Charlie Chaplin also once resided in a neighboring house, which DeMille later bought and merged with his own estate.

In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jolie opened up about her reluctance to stay in L.A. despite her desire to leave. The Academy Award winner, who filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016 after two years of marriage, shared that she was compelled to remain in the city "due to the divorce proceedings."

However, Jolie expressed her readiness to relocate abroad full-time once her twins reach adulthood, seeking qualities that L.A. could not provide for her or her children. "When you have a large family, you long for privacy, tranquility, and security for them," she said at the time. "I currently have a house here to raise my children, but sometimes, this place lacks... the humanity I've found elsewhere in the world is different from what I grew up with here."

Upon her departure from L.A., she noted, "I'll spend considerable time in Cambodia," where she adopted her eldest son, Maddox, in 2002. She added, "I'll also visit my family members wherever they are in the world." During a conversation at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in February, Jolie revealed that Cambodia holds a special place "in my heart" and is where she considers her true home.
