Anna Delvey Waltzes Out of Prison and Into Dancing With The Stars

Published: Sep 06 2024

Since her transition from the confines of prison to the relative freedom of house arrest in 2022, the notorious Manhattan con artist Anna Delvey has unveiled a string of bold new ventures, dazzling the public with an art exhibition, securing a documentary series deal, and triumphantly reclaiming her social media throne amidst a flurry of fresh endeavors. The latest buzz, however, hints at a grand departure from her carefully crafted Manhattan-centric, art-infused, Instagram persona that captivated audiences in the Netflix drama chronicling her exploits. She's set to shake up the Hollywood scene, jetting off to Los Angeles to strut her stuff on the dance floor of the hit reality competition show, Dancing With The Stars.

Delvey, infamous for her elaborate scams that deceived individuals and businesses out of millions, was handed down a sentence of "at least four" years behind bars in 2019, convicted of attempted grand larceny, multiple counts of grand larceny, and four misdemeanor charges for theft of services. Her web of deceit, spun around the illusion of being a wealthy heiress with visions of establishing an exclusive Manhattan art society, left a trail of betrayed victims, including former Vanity Fair staffer Rachel Williams, who narrated her elaborate tale of financial manipulation and social manipulation that ultimately unraveled.

Emerging from prison in 2021, Delvey's freedom was short-lived as she was promptly detained in an immigration facility for an additional 18 months, accused of visa overstay. Granted bail in 2022, she's been under house arrest while her deportation case navigates the complex legal labyrinth. Now, with a renewed push for asylum in the US, citing fears of persecution upon deportation to Russia via Germany, her legal battles are far from over, as relayed by her attorney, John Sandweg.

The shackles of house arrest seem to have loosened somewhat in recent times, allowing Delvey to venture beyond her usual confines. According to Page Six, she's now permitted to travel up to 70 miles from her residence, and rumors abound that she's been granted special dispensation to journey to LA for a stint on DWTS. In fact, whispers suggest she's already on her way, prepping for the spotlight that awaits.

With mounting legal expenses, the obligation to pay $199,000 in restitution and a $24,000 fine, coupled with the ever-rising cost of living in New York, it's clear that Delvey is eager to explore new avenues for financial gain. Her potential involvement in DWTS, where contestants can reportedly earn upwards of $295,000 if they last beyond the third week (Sean Spicer, a notorious figure himself, pocketed at least $125,000 during his appearance in 2019), may seem paltry compared to the $22 million she allegedly sought, but it's undoubtedly a stepping stone in her quest for redemption—or perhaps, just another cunning hustle.
