Anne Hathaway is finally setting the record straight about her appearance, putting an end to the numerous online speculations about her youthful looks. The 43-year-old actress, known for her role in "The Devil Wears Prada," spoke out in a recent interview with Elle, published on Thursday, May 21. Despite her preference to "never comment on anything" and "not draw attention" to herself, she felt compelled to address the rumors.

"We're living in a time where people confidently assume what they think is fact, and sometimes their assumptions are accurate, but sometimes they're not," Hathaway said, referring to the recent speculation about her appearance. "The speculation has gotten so loud that you feel the need to get your truth out there."

She continued, "I'll probably always wonder if I should have posted that or not, or if I should have just kept going and done what makes me feel more confident on the red carpet. But I felt like the conversation was becoming distracting."

Hathaway also wanted to clarify that the rumors about her undergoing plastic surgery were incorrect. "These are huge medical decisions that people are presuming," she added. "I wanted to show that no, I didn't make a huge medical decision. It's just two braids."

In a candid moment, she even hinted that she might still consider getting a facelift someday.

Further in the interview, the Oscar winner reflected on how she handled criticism at the start of her career. "One of the things about my younger self is that I was really scared, and I think that fear made me harsh with myself," Hathaway shared. "I shudder at the thought that I might have inadvertently been harsh with other people while I was being harsh with myself. The mere thought of it makes me nauseous."

Candor has always been a part of Hathaway's life. In her 2026 cover story for PEOPLE's World's Most Beautiful, the mom of two explained that her definition of beauty is authenticity. "A filmmaker once told me this: Beauty can contain within it ugliness as long as it contains truth. So for me, beauty always falls along those lines."

She was also honest when talking about her past beauty disasters. "I didn’t understand that there’s a whole language when it comes to beauty. For about 10 years, I was asking for my hair to be done a certain way, and it never went the way I wanted. And then finally, I showed someone a picture."
